Professionalism Class Notes

Professionalism is not just “one thing.”  There are many components to professionalism including Behavior, Communication, Knowledge, Confidence and so much more.

Behavior

  1. Be on time

  2. Return Calls

  3. Dress for the Occasion

  4. Do what is best for the client – Always

  5. Give Feedback

  6. Lock the Doors

Knowledge

  1. Stay in your Lane (vs. Inspector Lane, Lawyer Lane, Surveyor Lane, etc)

  2. Work only in your area(s) of competence and refer the rest

  3. Stay on top of market stats

  4. Keep learning above your required CE courses

  5. Read Trade Magazines

Confidence

  1. Knowledge will provide confidence

  2. Bounce ideas off  Lindsay or Laura or other colleagues

  3. Do your homework

  4. Stay in Dialogue but never divulge too much

Communication

  1. Proof read what you send

  2. Everything in writing can be used in court

  3. Absence of communication will be filled with Negativity

We reviewed the following articles :

The Code of Ethics is to be followed by all REALTORS in the country.  Any violations of the code are handled locally by the Grievance and Professional Standards Committees.

Procuring Cause – this is a great article and should be reviewed by everyone as this is a common question that we get.   Procuring cause is not clear cut and any disputes are handled locally via arbitration at the Board.

We discussed common contractual pitfalls.. Be sure to review this article and save yourself some headaches.
